DJ Website – Online Marketing Tricks for Your Deejay Business
Do you have a DJ Website? So many of my students come to me and complain because they are not getting the business they want. There phone doesn’t ring, and every Saturday night, they are left Gig-less. There are several ways to solve this with marketing, but a great place to start is creating a website!
Why a DJ Website?
Let’s put you in the shoes of your prospective client for a moment. They are planning that special event and they need DJ to make the night perfect. What do they do? Where do they go? If you think they rush over to that big yellow book (The YellowPages) collecting dust in the unwanted drawer in their house, you’re stuck in the nineties. (sorry!) Chances are, your potential client is asking around (referrals-another article!) or they are taking it to the web!
On the Internet, over 70% of all search-engine users prefer GOOGLE! They are most-likely searching for a keyword term like “LA DJ,”(replace LA for YOUR city) or “DJ LA,” or “DJ my party LA,” and they are going to see what Google gives them.
QUESTION: Are you on the first page of Google when your client searching for a DJ, or is your competitor?
Well, you can’t be on Google, without a website! But before you just jump out there and get your website made, let’s discuss some of the very most important elements of your website:
7 Essential Must-Have ELEMENTS for Your Website
You have less than 3 seconds to grab the attention of your web visitors before they get bored and move on. They’ll be asking questions like, “What is this site about?” “What’s in it for me?” and “How much?” Can you answer these questions and more? Below is a list of the 7 most essential ELEMENTS your website must have to compete with the rest:
1. SEO Optimized
Search Engine Optimization or SEO, is the act of modifying your website so that it is more search-engine friendly. Your goal is to have your website show up when prospective clients type in your keywords. Although we could spend hours on SEO, let’s break it down into three sections:
a. Domain Name: Choose a domain name that relates to your keyword. It should have “city+DJ” (or something similiar) in the domain name.
b. Keywords: Your keywords are the words or phrases that your clients are typing into Google to find you. Are those keywords in the titles and copy of all of your pages on your website?
c. Backlinks: Backlinks are the links from other websites that link to you. The more you have, the better! You can do link exchanges with other mobile vendors, or set up social networking profile pages.
2. What’s the Site About?
If your visitor finds your page and can’t understand what page they are on, they will quickly leave! You need to identify your business, the service you provide, and WHERE you provide that service as quickly as possible. Do that with a visual logo, images, a video, a headline and text.
3. Pictures & Video
Video is KING right now! Do you have a video on your home page? At the very least you need images. This interactive media draws in visitors and keeps them watching. Even if the video is a simple, talking-head video of you welcoming them to the site and telling them what to do next, you will immensely improve your website!
4. Contact Information:
How do your visitors get a hold of you? Most likely, a client has to call you to book an event and finalize details…is your phone number visible on EVERY page of your site? It better be!
5. Rates Page
One of the first questions clients ask is “How Much?!” Have a separate “RATES” page on your website that they can navigate to. BUT don’t reveal your rates (use the old “Call for pricing” trick) But use this page to describe your services in greater detail.
6. Lead Capture
What the heck is Lead capture? It is the flypaper that traps your visitors when they come to your site! It is a small form that allows your visitors to submit their name and email. Now they are on your mailing list and you can email them deals and promos at any time (more on this topic later). Go to www.Aweber.com and sign up for your email marketing software and put a lead capture device on your page!
7. Other Info:
What else is on your site? Do you have a “SERVICES” page that described you, your company, your mission statement, your equipment and more? How about a PHOTO GALLERY or an F.A.Q. page? The MORE pages you have, the better! (Helps to index more in Google!)
Just Say “NO” to Myspace!
I cringe when I hear DJs tell me that they don’t need a website, they have Myspace! Ack! Now, I’m not saying don’t use Myspace, just don’t use it as a SUBSTITUTE for a real, legitimate website! You need to be professional, and a website is the first step in that direction. If you want to charge PREMIUM RATES, you are going to need a professional DJ Website.
So Where do I Get My Website?
Well, there are several places to get a website. I want to actually warn you about finding a programmer or developer in the State who will probably charge an arm and a leg. You don’t NEED a fancy-schmancy website with things flying across the screen and all this music playing. Most people will probably hae an out-of-date browser anyway. That means your expensive website goes unseen!
Instead, I recommend using WordPress.org to get your hands on a FREE Blog. You simply need to choose the right theme to turn this “free blog” into a killer, lead-generating website!
