DJ Party | What is Momentum Marketing?

DJ Party Tips: What is Momentum Marketing and how can your Mobile DJ Business benefit from it?

When I first started my business I knew one very simple truth: “If I could just get that first gig, others would follow!” Sometimes taking that first step from inertia is the absolute hardest.  But I firmly believe, with consistent ACTION, exponential results are achieved.wedding-party-hands-up

Well…I was right!  On my very first event, (I didn’t even have business cards!) I had two leads lined up from a 50 guest party!

Momentum Marketing in the idea that as your business grows, your marketing (and selling) efforts will become easier while your results will become greater.  This is party due to Word-of-Mouth and reputation.  But with this important principle in mind, you must realize…

Getting YOUR First event booked will propel you into your 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on!

So, how can we prepare you so that you are ready for Momentum Marketing?  Here are for a key things to be aware of for your very first event

1.  All Your Guests are Potential Clients

3.5"x2" Business Card TemplateDo you have business cards?  Get them and get them quick!  Click here to get your Mobile DJ business cards now!  You need to be “working it” while your working an event.  Talk to the guests, ENTERTAIN them, introduce yourself, and PLEASE hand out some business cards!  Offer clients a discount, let them in on referral fees and get them excited about your business.  Word-of-Mouth is POWERFUL!  You must realize that every guest knows someone who is throwing a party in the next 6 months.   And what’s a party without a good DJ?

2.  Do You Know Your DJ Prices & Services?

One of the things I like to talk in much more detail (save for another post) is the topic of DJ rates & defining your services.  The last thing you want to do is be unprepared when a client is ready to give you their money.  If you are new to the DJ scene, it may be wise to keep your prices lower at first (until you gain wisdom, experience and confidence) but never sell yourself short.  All I ask is that you are prepared.  You should be charging a minimum of $400 for your services for a basic event-and you can easily start to increase the price!

But just as important as your DJ pricing, is your definition of services.  Most Mobile DJ’s completely forget this!  How many hours are you playing for, what does your services include?  What job duties will you perform?  Will you be the Emcee for the evening?  You need to clearly define exactly what you will do and what you will not do while on the job and explain it to the client up front.  It was only one time that I found myself taking out the trash and serving drinks for guests while on the job as a mobile DJ that I decided I needed to be more clear about my services.

3.  Do You Have All of Your DJ Equipment?

djequipmentNow, this may sound like a gimme, but there is plenty of dj equipment that you could easily forget about.  It is usually the little things.  Are you bringing a fold-able table?  Do you have a flashlight?  Wha able extention cords, duct table and extra cables?  This stuff is all very important!  What I like to do is create an equipment checklist so I know exactly what I need, and then I check it off before leaving for my DJ Party.

Visualize yourself walking through the set up of your next DJ Party and see if you have everything you need.  The last thing you want to do is ruin the evening of your guests because you forgot a cable.

Now, those are just three of the biggest ways you can prepared when Momentum Marketing takes effect.  Obviously we will need to have a lot of other things in place as you grow your business.  But, what I recommend is re-investing just a little at a time after each event.

What you will really find is that going from inertia to taking that first step will be the hardest.  I have several really effective marketing tricks that can guarantee you booking a DJ Party in your first week as a Mobile DJ, but I am saving those for future posts.

Just know that you need to be hungry!  You need to take consistent AND massive ACTION to completion to get yourself out their and start getting events!
